Just bought a Samsung LN46A630

Looking at getting a receiver. I'm looking at the Yamaha RX-V663 and RX-V863

Does the refresh rate matter if the TV is 120? Would both be fine? Does anyone have ideas on what would be a great receiver in the $500 - $700 range for my TV?

Brand new at this game, any help would be appreciated!

It does not matter if the refresh rate of the TV is 120hz. You may want a receiver that passes 24fps video over HDMI though. And I believe both of those receivers will do that.

If the TV properly displays 24fps video, a receiver that handles 1080/24 correctly is a good thing. That way you can set a Blu-ray player to output 24fps, and watch movies free of any "judder."

**PHONE** Larone at jr.com or Dave at 6ave.com and ask for the unpublished "AVS special" price. Both are authorized Yamaha dealers and price includes shipping within the USA. Check with both, although they generally match each other.

On the phone with Dave at 6ave.com he said based on the specs of the speakers it may be better to have a little more wattage, so I'm ordering the Yamaha RX-V863BL

The 663 and 863 are virtually the same output power!!!

The 863 WILL NOT be any improvement over the 663 !

Take a breath and save the extra money.

"knowledgeable" = "skillful upsell"

don't worry though, the 863 is a fine receiver, you won't be disappointed. the third HDMI input could end up being a nice extra for you.

Yes, the 863 is an excellent AVR ... just that the 'regular' price differential is too much!

PM me "how much".

Great deal!

If the 863 was offered to me at that price I would have taken it! I'm glad I steered you to him.

You'll enjoy it a lot.
