Refurb units ship w/o remotes?

1104 Views 21 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  mboy
I just received my refurb 4805 that I ordered from Infocus and there was no remote included. There was a paper explaining not all accessories might be present. To bad it wasn't a cable I already own. I have an RCA RC1010RF universal learning remote if a code exists for this pj. Otherwise I'll just order the Director remote. Thanks,

Ward

There SHOULD be a remote included!! Even if it isn't the standard model. Call Infocus customer support.

One of ours had the more expensive "Navigator" included but I *far* prefer the cheaper "Director".
That is lame. When you spend that much money you would think they would throw in the darn remote! I have a refurb NEC240k and it came with all the accessories.
Thanks - I'll give them a ring tomorrow about sending one out & post their response.
Please do. I have one on e the way and am hoping the remote is in the box.
Mine came without the remote too. Luckily, I have a harmony remote and the codes are already included. It included all the other accessories except the remote. :(
Let me know Ward. I believe I have a spare laying around.
Although Infocus may send a remote, the disclaimer that accessories may not be included means the remote or other accessories may be missing to my way of reading. Few things in life are risk free and buying refurbished electronics isn't one of the few.

Infocus states on the Refurbished SP4805 specifications page on their website that the "Director" remote is included:
Ships Standard with:
  • Quick Start Card
  • User Manual
  • Lens cap
  • Home Entertainment (Director) Remote Control (batteries included)
  • M1 to VGA/USB-A cable
  • Composite audio/video cable
  • S-video cable

They even explicitly state the warranty for the remote:
Warranty

Projector: 90 Days
Remote: 90 Days

Cables and adapters: 90 Days

Lamp: 90 Days

If the remote is not included, contact them and point this out. Putting a disclaimer in the package after the fact is not legal.

I don't know that page refers to all refurbished Infocus SP4805 projectors purchased from all vendors. I would assume purchasing from a vendor that has a disclaimer that accessories may be missing is in fact very legal. The much lower price charged is the reason some might take that risk. I have no specific knowledge of this particular item purchased by the OP or the terms stated in the purchase agreement but I have purchased many refurbished products that clearly had the disclaimer I described.

Such a disclaimer must be presented before the sale in order to be legal, not after the fact!!

Infocus advertise a remote included with the refurb 4805 and must supply one.
I too received a 4805 four days ago and it did not include the remote.

I've e-mailed the company requesting they ship one immediately.

Who said the supplier didn't disclose the fact on the advertisement? I agree the Infocus ad for their higher priced refurbished SP4805s should include a remote, but where are you getting that Infocus must supply a remote for any SP4805 sold by any retailer regardless of what disclaimers the seller uses? I am assuming the OP purchased the SP4805 from a company that had a disclaimer similar to what I suggested. Just because Infocus sells refurbished SP4805s with supplied remotes does not mean all sellers do, period.

Chris
Well Chris there is no reason for assuming the OP bought from any vendor but Infocus, because the OP specifically says, I just received my refurb 4805 that I ordered from Infocus and there was no remote included.

I will try one more time. I don't see any indication that the OP purchased a refurbished SP4805 from Infocus according to the advertisement referenced here or if he was one of the many that have purchased a refurbished SP4805 according to a different sale advertisement from Infocus or other retailers. Obviously all SP4805s originally come from Infocus but different sellers sell according to different terms. There was a long thread regarding refurbished SP4805s being sold for $500. There have been other threads referring to different lots of refurbished SP4805s referenced here. I expect all of them were refurbished by and came from Infocus. The terms of the sale can certainly be different and the purchase terms referred to will likely be included in the SP4805 box. Some posters here seem to be assuming that Infocus has violated the terms of their own sale. I assume that Infocus did not violate the terms of the sale unless the OP indicates that he in fact did purchase according to the terms as disclosed in the referenced ad and not as the slip included in his box indicates. I find Infocus to be a reputable company and likely has done nothing wrong here. Still, all companies make mistakes and it is possible Infocus did in fact make a mistake here, I just can't come to that conclusion from reading the OP original statement.

The page referenced here on the Infocus site is not a specification sheet as described, it is an offer to sell a refurbished SP4805 according to the terms disclosed for that specific sale. A previous sale could very well have been according to different terms. If indeed the OP did purchase from that specific ad then I agree, a remote should be included. This isn't rocket science, different sales of refurbished products can be according to different terms, whether from Infocus or any other seller.

I hope I have made this simple concept clear finally but the original poster can come back and refer to the ad that was the basis of his sale and the terms of the sale will likely be very plain. If as I expect it was one of the inexpensive refurbs, it had the common disclaimer and the seller made no guarantee of having a remote control included.

I too made the assumption that the OP got it directly from Infocus because of what he said. Thats why I replied to this thread, I purchased mine directly from the Infocus store and it did NOT come with a remote.

If you bought it from that ad, which must also mean at that price, then I would say you are clearly entitled to a remote and Infocus should send one. If it wasn't that specific sale, then refer to the sale terms as indicated for your purchase to determine whether or not you should have received one.

Chris
I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Here's the link to the Infocus ad page where I made my purchase

//store.infocus*DOT*com/escalate/store/DetailPage?pls=infocus&bc=infocus&pc=SP-4805-RE&tab=desc]Refurb

Here's a cut and paste from the overview blurb:

Factory refurbished projectors are projectors that have been returned to InFocus and have been reconditioned, tested, and re-packaged for sale. Every factory refurbished projector comes with an accessory kit and a 90 day warranty for parts and labor.

I was unable to find a detailed listing of said 'accessory kit', but it seems to imply a remote...note - this blurb may explain the missing remotes...

Pricing and promotions shown valid in U.S. only. Prices may vary per region. InFocus reserves the right to alter product offerings and specifications at any time without notice.

Regardless, I couldn't be more pleased with the price/picture ratio, and thank you to nnci for the offer on the spare remote. If it's needed I'd be happy to send you a spare tech toy in return as a thank you.

Cheers,

Ward

Aha! I was in a hurry and flew thru a sucker hole of sorts.

I called Infocus this morning and spoke with Luciana who assured me a remote should have been included and they will send one out to me UPS ground at no charge. She was very nice & helpful, a thumbs up for Infocus! I can put this one to bed now.

Cheers,

Ward
