Hi all,
I recently bought an AIW9700Pro. I can get it to output Component video at HDTV resolutions (1920x1080x30i) on my Toshiba TW56X81 using Catalyst 3.2 drivers (running WinXP SP1) as a second monitor by "extending the windows desktop".
It looks great.
But, there are two problems, one minor - one major.
The minor problem - during boot, bios startup displays all appear on the TV instead of the monitor. The main monitor is blank until the windows login screen is displayed.
The major problem - the resolution wont stay set up properly.
It'll sometimes switch resolutions to VGA (640x480 - P or I, not sure) and sometimes it'll switch to DVD resolution (704x480, I think, but may be slightly higher).
If it switches to 480p, there are no other choices on the slider when you go to desktop settings. If it switches to 704x480, the slider has a range of smaller resolutions, but no higher resolutions. Actually, changing the resolution from the slider doesn't seem to work at all - you have to go to the "Advanced" tab and "show all modes" in order to pick a resolution that sticks. If you try to change the resolution on the slider, it just ignores you and resets when you hit apply.
To get it back to 1080i, I have to disconnect the TV, disable the second monitor and reboot for 1080i settings to appear as a valid choice in the "list all modes" dialog.
It's a major PITA. Does anyone have any ideas what's wrong here - and how I might fix t?
Thanks,
frabman
P.S. I'm at work right now, but I'll try some screen captures of the various dialogs later tonight if anyone thinks that might help.
P.P.S. I've seen talk about how the DVD player software wont display full 1080i resolutions because of macrovision, however when I ran the ATI dvd player and moved the output window to the 1080i desktop and maximized it, it did seem to be scaled all the way to 1080i. Is there a way I can check?
Thanks again!
