Hi, recently purchased my panny DMR-EZ48. I have some questions about remote control features. Can you eject vhs tape any way with the remote control? Can you eject the dvd disc any way with remote control? When changing channels is there a way to go back to the previous channel with a 1 button push? I've been missing the "flashback" / "return" feature that I had with my old player. I have this hooked up to an old sony analog tv so I use the panny for the digital tuner and watch the tv through it. Thanks for any help.

Sorry, but it's nope to all 3 questions. Panasonic decided it was better to make us search for the eject buttons in our darkened entertainment centers with the glow of the tv blinding us in the face, rather than include an eject button like all the other dvd players and vcrs we've used up til our buying their units.

And just think of all the wonderful exercise our thumbs get from manually punching in 3 and 4-even 5 digit digital channel numbers. Who needs a pesky recall button-like the ones on ALL THE OTHER tv/dvd/vcrs out there...

Lazy lazybones, are we.

If one must have the Panasonic disc tray open/close feature the Philips PMDVD6 and other similar Philips Universal Learning Remotes have that function when implemented with the 0340 code for use on a Panasonic. The 0340 code corresponds with Panasonic code #1.

The attached photo shows a PMDVD6 implementation for a Philips 3575 and Panasonic DVD recorders set to code #1. Notice that button #4 opens and closes the disc tray.

A detailed description of the PMDVD6 implementation is found here:

The Panasonic remote that came with the E80 will control your EZ48. It has a DVD open/close button. It does not have either of the others though. The E80 remote is readily available from many sites.

Hmmm. I don't have a button like that - my Philips remote is a lot newer (2008 model). In fact, I don't even see those in any stores around here anymore. Haven't for a long, long time.

I tried one of those cheaper ones like that that they had out for a few years up until about the last year, and I returned it, because it wouldn't hold the manual button programming. The buttons were too small and sticky, and the remote was just too flimsy in general. It was one of the cheapest remotes I've ever tried. It's no wonder they dropped down to only a couple of measly bucks when they were clearing them out around here. I have nothing against inexpensive remotes - I even have an inexpensive, all-silver RCA - but that thing was the downright crappiest (aftermarket) remote I've ever used. I had the 8-device DVR model when it first came out - they had a lot of nerve charging $20.00-$25.00 for that thing.
