I have a Denon 3805 A/V receiver with the illuminescent remote. The remote has worked perfectly for three years and a couple of weeks ago, it stopped allowing me to turn off my 3805 via the remote button. There is a MASTER off button (now doesn't work) and with 'amp' highlighted, you can turn it off with the 'source' off button (this now doesn't work either) Everything else works on the remote as before. I've got four other sources programmed into it, as well as two other Denon products. They all work perfectly. I'm concerned the problem may be in my receiver and NOT the remote, but I'm not real sure. I experienced some static electricity (small shock due to dryness) when I shut off the receiver with the power button on the unit and thought that may have played a part. Although, that's happened MANY times before with no problems. Anyone have any thoughts as to the problem and if it's in the remote or the receiver's electronics?? Thank you so much for any help...

Sorry if I'm not following, but do the specific hardbuttons work if mapped for another function...(if that's even possible)..? I find it odd that your AVR is picking and chosing what commands to follow, and what not to.

If it were me, and for the effort it takes. I'd open up the remote and check the contact points for those buttons on the component board. I have on many occassions had to clean contact blocks on the underside of the button pad, and pickups on the board.

If you decide to try it. A pencil eraser works fine, or you can get hard core and use contact cleaner.

Use a camera phone and point it at the front of your remote where the IR signal is sent out. If you see light flashing through your camera phone's screen when your press the OFF button your remote is sending the command and its your receiver.

Nope, you can't map the hard buttons. They are ONLY for turning the AVR ON and OFF. Neither works anymore. You can also turn the AVR on and off with the 'SOURCE' on and off buttons which are part of the illuminescent controls. The SOURCE on and off buttons don't work for the AVR, BUT, they work for all my other components. That's why I leaning more toward it being a faulty AVR and not the remote.

Thanks, I'll give that a test.

Let me know if that helped out.

Thank you again for the great tip! Did the test last night and it IS the remote. Getting the IR flashes on the camera phone with the other function buttons except the ones were not working. So, it is the remote. Not sure I'll replace it yet, since that particular remote may be a bit too spendy for my liking. Thank you again....awsome help.
