Sounds like it might be the receiver instead of the remote. Try the remote down at your local B&M Store.

Remote problem with Panasonic DVD-S97
The remote control stopped working completely yesterday for my DVD-S97. I bought new batteries and that didn't fix it either. I tried using the remote 6 inches from the sensor, turning on/off the unit, unplugging it, resetting to factory defaults with no luck. Has anyone run into this before? I've never had a remote randomly stop working.
I even tried programming my Philips 30PW 8402/37 TV remote to work with it but it doesn't seem to be accepting the codes that came with the manual from the Philips.
