Hello everybody!

Would it be ok if I took the protective screen off my Mitsubishi 65" model# xxx819? Is the remaining screen really that fragile? What are the pros and cons of removal?

Thanks.

Yes it can be removed, and yes the lenticular screen under it can be scratched VERY easily and is VERY VERY expensive to replace. If you dont have kids, grandkids, friends with kids....go ahead and remove it.

Removal instructions vary based on the model (the 819 has removable trim pieces on top/bottom) Carefully start prying out at a corner until you can grab it between your fingers, then remove it completly. Repeat on bottom trim piece same way. Then flex the whole screen from the middle until each side becomes free of the channels it sits in. Try not to get fingerprints on the inside of it as it will be tough to clean. (BTW:Never use windex or amonia based cleaners on it as it will marr the screen and on the Diamond series even take off the anti glare coating.)

If you can, go back to the store, you bought it from and have them give you the cardboard sheath and protective foam wrap the screen was originally shipped in, as this will protect it from being damaged or picking up lint, dirt etc (it is very static prone and will become a lint magnet!) They should have tons of these as none of the 65's are shipped with them on.

Good luck!
