I searched and could not find if this is possible. My 3 yr old son chipped up the front glass on our 42 inch plasma. I have the service manual and removal looks fairly easy.

Can I replace it with a piece cut to the same size and width? Panasonic wants a crazy amount of money to for the replacement ($600.00).

Is there special coating on the glass other than tint? If I replace it with aftermarket glass is it safe? (radiation etc?)

I am leaning on getting a new one eventually and moving this one to another room. Picture is mostly ok, chips are not noticable for most part while watching. It bugs me seriously and I now will be purchase a screen guard for this and/or new one.

I would like to see if I can get a piece of glass cut/tinted for a cheaper price. any ideas?
