As far as I know, Sony has said nothing. Besides, personally separates are the better way to go. The best part of the 34XBR2 was the firewire port. I'd say that if you're in the market, just get the 34XBR910. It will give you a better picture than the XBR2 and has a DVI input for upcoming technologies.
Sony probably realized like their competitors that leaving the HD tuner out is better. An external STB allows you to choose what type to use (not only OTA) since nowadays many cable systems provide you an HD STB for a small rental fee, or you may need one with a satellite system - the external approach is more versatile.
