Hey All,

Finally looking to replace my 32" CRT Magnavox TV!
  • I'll be sitting about 8-12 feet from the TV at any point
  • so I dont think I want to go any bigger than 50"
  • I have HD cable from Comcast with and HD box and channels
  • My wife and I mostly watch the mainstream shows, CBS, NBC, Fox etc which all have HD counterparts.
  • There will be some SD viewing, Sprout, DIY network etc
  • I have a PS3 but rairly get a chance to play it, but hope to watch some movies on it.

Are Kuro PRO-111FD sets still available? Would anyone still recommend buying one of these "discontinued" products?

IMO, you can go up to 65", I have one and sit around 11 feet away. By no means to large!

IMO, I would look at the new Panny VT-25's. These should (I say should as I have not seen one but I own a V10) have a great picture and are 3D ready. From what I understand, your PS3 will only require a firmware update in order to be 3D compliant.

For great price points, Vizio has 3D LCD's which are a 72" - $3499.00, 55" - $2499.00, 47" - $1999.00

Ahh 3D doesn't really impress me all that much especially on TV. Are the Panny's not the ones having the blacks getting blacker issue?

LOL no or else we'd all be high fiving each other. They are the ones with the blacks becoming lighter it is thought.

Apparently, but I have not seen that on mine and I have had it since October '09. From what I understand, the VT-25's won't have this issue. I won't be changing my TV any time soon, but if I was buying now, you might as well consider 3D.

Actually the VT-25's (13G) will have the issue as per D-Nice. Only future sets won't but those in production including 2010's will. I'm not saying not to buy one though either. To the OP the Kuro would be a great choice end of line or not.

^^ .. you'll be hard-pressed to find a Kuro, though they're out there for a 'real' premium (eBay, if you dare; i believe Value Electronics named).

otoh, for you distance, a 54" Panasonic would be a suitable size/replacement. Start w/ the S1 (check Amzn), then the G10. btw, Panasonic on maker of this size (54"), unless you move up to 58" (again, S1 popular; B&H), then Samsung 58B650.

I think I'm going to TRY and look for a Kuro in my area - do any of the box stores ie best buy still carry them? Basicly looking for somewhere I could pick up a new Kuro 111FD? - I'm looking in the Cherry Hill NJ area.
