My Paradigm 10 year old Paradigm PS1000 died. I can get it repaired for about $125 at a local shop. I was thinking that I may be better off replacing it. I have narrowed my search to the HSU VTF-2 MK3, the Elemental Designs A3-300 or the SVS PB12-NSD. My room is a small den which is about 14 x 18 but it is open at the back to my kitchen area which is about the same size. Which of these subs would be a better match for my Paradigm Reference 80's? Or would something else be a better match (at lower cost if possible).

I don't have any specific size requirements and a black wood grain finish would be a perfect match for the room. My listening habits are split pretty evenly between Movies/ Music / Gaming (probably movies a bit more often).

Thanks for any opinions...

I think the only one of the three you mentioned that may be available in a black wood grain finish is the HSU, although I could be wrong. Any of the three should sound great, as those are all very reputable establishments.

I actually went down one notch and ordered the PB10-NSD. All the reviews I have seen make it sound like a perfect fit for me with Price and quality. I will post my thoughts after usage.

You weren't specific with a price limit, but the Definitive Technologies SuperCube I would be MORE than enough sub-bass for the room you described. I use the reference model in my theater and the "one" in the family room, but I could have easily used the "one" in the theater. The maximum volume I can use is 20%. Any SPL above that and the neighbors start in with me! Of all the subs I've owned, the Definitives are the only ones that have never given me one single problem. Go to a dealer and audition one. That's the only way. What we write in this forum is basically meaningless when it comes to ones ears!
