Guys -

I've been absent the forums for a while... job issues, and such..

Wife and I are considering expanding our replay TV collection, but we have a quandry.

Our upstairs DISH receiver (4700) is in the bedroom, and it attaches to the the bedroom TV via composite outputs. The RF output runs to coax, which spreads that signal to 2 other televisions in the house. IF we happen to be using those rooms (one is my daughters..) the Dish RF remotes control it using "remote address 02".

Does the Showstopper (my existing unit) or the RTV5040 (onsale at buy.com) know how to talk to a DISH receiver programmed to use remote-code set #2?

If not, how do I work around this an still maintain functionality?

Please advise ASAP. Sorry, I would have searched the archives but the search function is offline.

Replays only work from IR signals...no RF AFAIK.

Does the 4700 receive IR as well as RF? That's the first important factor.

Assuming that it does, you can probably get by with switching back to the primary codeset, since you wouldn't be using your RF Dish remote anymore. Or will you still have a not-replaytv-controlled satellite receiver? (in that case, you could assign IT the alternate codeset).

What specific reason are you using code 2?

As mentioned in my post:

Showstopper downstairs on Dish receiver 1 uses remote code 1.

Upstairs Dish receiver feeds 3 different TVs, and uses remote code 2 in order to allow me to access via RF from other rooms.

There's no easy solution without adding additional hardware.

In my setup I have:

5080 +Dish6000 in family room

DP501 in familry room (remote code 5).

5040 +Dish301 in bedroom 1.

IR=>RF converter in bedroom 1.

RF=>IR converter in family room.

3060 +Dish301 in bedroom 2

TV only in bedroom 3.

2 channel modulator in family room with o/p fed back into the house wiring, setup as follows:

Channel 90 has one of the outputs of my video switcher.

Channel 92 has one of the DP501 outputs.

Also using diplexers to combine/split the sat. and cable signals throughout the house.

In addition to viewing the equipment in each room, the above setup allows me to:

view any video source in bedroom 1 via ch. 90.

View DP501 in any TV in the house via ch. 92.

Guess then that I'm stuck.... stuck getting a DISH Network freeking 721 time based recorder and giving up all my features!!!

Surely REPLAY could program the blaster to use alternate IR codes!!!

It is possible to hack additional codes into the 4xxx and 5xxx units without too much difficulty. (Search for "Dish Unsubscribed Fix" for details -- The DishFix stuff does this to redefine the Enter code as a ChUp-ChDown sequence.).

It would be a small change to that code to change it from dish remote 1 to dish remote 2. It would be necessary to find the difference between code 1 and code 2 (probably only a small difference) and then manually make this change to the .rid file using a binary editor.

Anyone out there know the difference between dish codes 1 and 2?

Those search terms didn't work for me. I used similar ones to find what looks like the main thread .

And on the OTHER topic, I believe you can hit the guide button instead of Channel up/down to enter a new channel number and get it unstuck. May be a little less overhead or confusing for the receiver.

My fix so far was to set my newer receiver's timer to tune to a valid channel every night at 7:57pm. I guess I also never use Zones.

RemoteCentral has the discrete codes for dish receivers which include codesets 2-? (only for on/off though).

The above suggestion by FlipFlop would fix one problem, however John still has the problem of how to remotely control the Replay unit that would be located in the upstairs bedroom. He would need a set of IRRF converters.

Also, the IR=>RF converter would have to be mobile, and moved to whatever room you're planning on watching TV (assuming you want to watch on more than one TV).

I want to be able to use the dish RF remotes, but the ahowstopper / replay needs to know 'code set 2' as well. That way, the Replay could force a channel change...

Or, I need an RF remote that can run the Replay as well... Then I could remote-control the REPLAY box from another room....

Yes, that would be the main thread with the DishFix files in it.

As for using the Guide button, that won't work with the replay because there is no method for sending keystrokes before the digits. There is an option to send enter after the digits, which is what I used. I've found the channel up/down works very well. There have been a couple mistunes since I implemented the fix, but it has never gotten stuck on that unsubscribed channel message despite Dish adding channels and me using a lot of Zones.

Setting the receiver timer to tune a valid channel at 7:57 is a great idea.

Another solution is to run a transparent proxy between the replay and the replaytv.net servers, and substitute your own zipcode and headend definitions (see http://rns.prest.ca ) With this you can control which Dish channels your replay sees.
