Thanks in advance.
Agreed. This is at the top of my "wish it was different" list for my replay. Imagine quicker and perfectly reliable recording. IR blaster works 98% of the time, but that once or twice a month it records the wrong channel can make you forget that it usually works.

Wouldn't it be better to put a digital tuner inside the Replay instead. Get rid of that stupid cable box and let the Replay do all the work.

Not sure if it's easily do-able, but why have 2 boxes when 1 can do the job.

Because every cable company uses different hardware and guess what... it's not all compatible. Nice huh?

Well, they are supposed to come out with plug and play digital tuners....in fact I think the FCC is requiring it. To help speed up consumer adoption of digital TV, they want consumers to be able to buy digital TVs everywhere.

The only thing is then buying/renting the smart card from your cable provider to authorize the device.

So wonder how long will it be for this to actually happen....and would DNNA create a box of their own for use with ReplayTV....and will it work with present devices....they should be able to create something that can controlled reliably by a ReplayTV.

Oh well, I suppose I should of known this. Guess I'll have to get one of those helper monkeys to switch the channels for me instead. It's gotta be more reliable than the IR blaster :)

Monkeys used for this purpose might not be as useful as how you may be picturing them in your head. Sure It makes a nice mental picture: happy, polite monkeys doing a flawless job changing channels for you.

It's just not that simple.

Yeah, but at what price? The digital ready devices will probably have all kinds of DRM (Digital Rights Management) enabled, which, among other things will prevent you from recording PPV events, and will allow for selective record inhibiting of anything the content provider desires. A Brave New World indeed :(
