Have you looked at Sonic Blue's Business-to-Business web pages?

http://www.sonicblue.com/b2b/replaytv/default.asp

These applications are NOT consumer oriented. This is NOT the 4500. This is for businesses that want to use ReplayTV boxes to communicate with their branch offices or their customers or their prospects. From a business point of view, it is pretty neat.

But how about the TECHNICAL tidbits? One of the subsidiary pages below the link above shows:

http://www.sonicblue.com/b2b/replayt...e_platform.asp

-Support for integrating and controlling DVD and CD drives for media playback and recording

-External FireWire expansion (optional)

-External USB expansion (optional)

-Flexible expansion slots to support custom solutions including:

--Dual tuners to watch and record different programs or record two programs at the same time

--Smart Cards for authentication, commerce and pay-per-view activities

I just thought you might want to take a look at what the ReplayTV platform is really able to do. Maybe someday, some of the "neat stuff" like dual tuners and DVD and CD recording and playback will trickle down to us lowly consumers.

What do you think?

Sounds like a digital cable decoder box idea.

Which would be totally fun.

I think those were quite old.

I remember around the time Replay changed focus out of the consumer biz (before SB bought them), Replay posted some pages that appeared to brainstorm how business could use the technology and what they could write for it, hoping to get a contract.

Good ideas, not necessarly something going into a product.
