Going to the replatytv site I see they are selling 5040's with and without lifetime subscriptions. The ones with the lifetime subscriptions are significantly cheaper. Does anyone know if these lower priced 5040's are refurbished? Are they an earlier version with the louder fans?

I thought all versions of 5xxx's had the loud fans, though I could be wrong.

The 5040's with lifetime are listed as "Brand New Unit", as Bob pointed out. I am keeping my fingers crossed (but not holding my breath) that the one I ordered will have the quieter fan. It should arrive today, but I won't be home to accept the UPS shipment. I should have it early next week and will post if the fan is any quieter.

Dunno on the fan on items in stock recently. I got a 5040 from Amazon near the end there, and it seems to have the orig fan circuitry.


Does anyone know if the S/Ns for the 5000s are one continuous stream for all models, or does each model have its own sequence?


If it's one stream, this (late August) 5040 is older than the 5160 I got from DNNA in May!

No, ReplayLyndon stated last week that the newest 5000 series replays had new fan circuitry to reduce the noise. Of course, just because Replay sells them as new doesn't mean they weren't manufactured a while ago. They could have been excess inventory returned from stores, etc.

I got mine from buy.com in the middle of the $50 promotion, and have YET to actually hear the fan! The only noise I occassionally hear is the hard drive heads if I delete a show and the room is dead silent.

I just purchased a new 5040 from replay sites and recieved it 4 1 week ago. Does it have the quieter fan? Well I am planning on replacing it tonight if that tells you anything.

Hmm, maybe I'll concel my order and get one from buy.com.

I got a 5040 from replay.com and it has a MUCH quieter fan than my 5080.

Yep, just read Lyndon's post. I'll be out of warranty soon and had already planned on a thermisistor to take care of what's ailing it.
