Hello all! First post!


I just ordered a set of four theater seats from Roman. Roman is awesome! From a couple of other sites I ordered two pairs of Aura Bass Shaker Pros and a 100W mono sub amp. I plan to hook them up in series-parallel.


Now I am curious to know what to expect when I get ready to mount the Bass Shakers. Would any of you please take a picture of whatever Buttkicker / Bass Shaker / other transducer installation you have? I don't care whether it's ugly or polished. I just want to know how it's done. Previous threads on this subject seem either to have scant pictures posted or the picture host has expired the pictures.


Why do so many people mount on particle board? The particle board has to screw into the chair somewhere; why not just mount the transducer directly to the spot where the particle board is mounted? Does anyone have any special considerations specific to the Berkline 12003 Reno line of theater seating?


I think pictures will really help answer these questions, as well as questions I can't think to ask yet. Holy jeez I can't wait till my toys all arrive!

I will try to post some pics later of the hook up and mount but u will love the bass shakers! It make everything u watch a whole lot better. I have one on each of my 6 recliners and love it.

4 bass shaker pros + amp were very reasonably priced, even with shipping. The shakers came from avappliance , and the amp is an SMP60 from outdoor speaker depot . Anyway, I justified it to myself by telling myself, "Self? You know, $xx per seat including the amp is a really good deal for such an impressive addition to your setup. I have done almost exactly what you are after. However what I did:


I came across 4 of the Aura bass shakers cheap, and found a simple but effective way to mount them to my 4 Berkline 99s, using some plywood and (believe it or not) some zip ties. I'll try to remember to flip one of my berks over and get a photo for you tomorrow.


The Aura's were 4 ohms each. I wired them in series as 2 separate sets. I am powering them from the stereo main speaker outputs; from an old unused Dolby receiver i had laying around (~80 watts per channel going into 8 ohms).


I simply T'd into the LFE output from my main HT receiver, and used a Y cable to drive a pair of auxillary stereo inputs on my re-purposed old receiver.

Aye, clear as mud.

Since I'm expecting a mono amp, I'm going to go with a series/parallel wire-up -- two pairs wired in series for 8 ohms per pair, then that pair of pairs wired in parallel to end up with a 4 ohm load.


I have tons of zip ties. It seems to me to be a good way to mount the shakers to metal, but I imagine there might be some play in the mounting, somewhat degrading the effectiveness of the shakers. You have no complaints, though?


Can't wait to see pics. My chairs are scheduled for delivery tomorrow, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they're still in Jersey, snowed in. Stupid snow! The amp's not supposed to arrive till Monday, and the shakers are still marked as not shipped / cc as not processed. Seems I have a few days to plan my attack, at any rate.

OK here is what I did, used 3/4" plywood:

For this photo I tipped the chair forward, the chair back is at the top of the photos, and the footrest at the bottom.

Other thoughts:

You're wiring plan sounds fine. However; I hope you have enough power to drive all 4 shakers to the level of vibration you are hoping for? I am running 2 pair in series, with 80 watts available to each pair, although I seldom go past 50% on the throttle (I would guess in average situations > I'm hitting the 4 chairs with about 70 watts total into 4 shakers) .


No doubt a real frame mounting solution would probably be more efficient and would also provide more uniform shaking through the entire chair, as opposed to be concentrated on the butt area. However I rigged mine as a temporary test, and it works well enough, (knowing my lazy ways) it will probably become permanent.

Thanks a ton for the pic! I will definitely post pics and give my impressions once I get them installed myself. I think 100w @ 4 ohms, divided among 4 shakers will be plenty. I'll mount directly to the frame if I can find a good spot to do so (such as the black painted wood at the back of the base as shown in the top of your picture, if our chairs are built similarly); and I'm not looking to vibrate someone out into the floor with them. I want them to be a subtle augmentation of my existing bass, rather than a theme park ride.


Though I've always heard that higher wattage != louder. Higher wattage = cleaner and less distortion. A 250w amp probably would've been better for me, but I like bargains too much to pass up the 100w I found. Oh well. We'll see what happens.

I have 2 aura bass shakers and im ordering an amp of 100 watts. i want to connect it to my pc's soundcard (subwoofer output)...

I dont understand much of frequencies or ohms

Please help anyone?

I saw your picture of your set up. I was just wondering what do you use to attach the 3/4 board to the bottom of the seat?

Hi, I wonder how you find it now in the long term? I have used a longer plywood for my bigger sofa with 2x Auro pro bass shaker and each is attached to a 3/4 plywood on both ends of the sofa, I think the vibration is so much better.


I have two more attached on an Ikea Poang chair, also in Series powered by a used Onkyo AMP, with 100W per channel. I have to adjust the Bass Shaker so that it does not hit my butt, but instead there is enough space between my chair and the plywood. So when the movement happens the frame of the chair moves and it does not just focus on my butt.
