I have a Samsung SIR-T100 STB. It will output 480p or 1080i based on a slide-switch on the back.
My question is, how does the STB go about upconverting a 480p (and 720p) DTV OTA signal to 1080i?
Is there any difference, really, between a 540p and 1080i signal? I could see the STB taking each 480p frame and either padding it with blanking interval to make up 540 lines. Or it could re-send every eighth line. Or they could get really complicated and do a bi-qubic recalc of each pixel.
And then what do you do with 720p?
