Composer Richard Einhorn and film-restoration expert Kevin Manbeck discuss the amazing story of the 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc, which was believed lost in a fire until a copy in exceptional condition was discovered in a closet at a Norwegian mental institution in 1981. Kevin talks about how the movie was made with many experimental techniques as well as the restoration process, and Richard explains how he came to write an oratorio to accompany the movie, which is available on DVD from Criterion. We show some clips and stills from the movie, answer chat-room questions, and more.
