One more creative PSN title to add to the rafters. Retro/Grade has you playing as a spaceship that just saved the universe; however, an anomaly has reversed the flow of time, and you have to maintain the stream of events by playing the game backwards.

From gameplay videos, you basically have to 'catch' your shots as the come away from the enemy that was destroy. It's a lot like a rhythm game like Rock Band or Guitar Hero, which I guess the devs caught on to, because the game is also in sync with the music playing. The shmup and rhythm genres are two of my favorites, so I'm pretty excited about this.

You can read up a little about it and watch a video of it below:

No release date yet, devs say sometime in 2010.

You can also supposedly use a guitar controller to play it.

From watching videos, it looks like a rhythm game with a shooter skin and a rewind function. If it isn't over $10, I'm sold on it.

Shmup? I thought you were inventing words until I checked Wikipedia.

Blame the Brits for that one. I grew up calling them shooters. Not until FPS games became a big thing was that a problem, so then gamers had to hunt frantically for a word to describe the old genre so it wouldn't get confused with the new one. The Brits already had one. Thus "shmups."

I still call them shooters though.

This is true. I still feel a bit douchey saying "shmup." I still tend to call them shooters, as well.
