Hi everyone!

I have a problem with my retrodata (i have 2 now) this one has 2092 hours on it. Anyway whenever theres a bright flash on the screen like lightning etc the screen cuts out and goes black... I have to turn it off and back on to get picture back... but if I run it back over the spot it switched off it does the same thing?

Any ideas? and if so how do i fix?

Cheers!

Most likely a bad EHT board, or possibly a bad quad or HV splitter. Swap the EHT board out between the sets to see if that's it.

I have spares or can repair yours.

Thanks!

The EHT board is the one in the back right hand corner of the set screwed to the outside of the frame by two screws with the HV warning printed on it.

Right next to the quad that has the two thick red HV leads coming out of it.

Hi curt, i tried ALL the boards, but to no avail.. still the same problem.

I also tried that board you suggested next to the big grey box with the red wires coming out of it.... unscrewed it and swapped it over, but no difference?

What else might you think it could be? could it be that big grey box? or maybe the thingy at the very bottom directly below the grey box and below the cards?

It seems to be getting worse though, whatever the problem is theres something failing.... :( now it wont hold a picture for more than a few seconds at a time, and it goes to the black screen

There's a small red LED on that EHT board. Does it come on when the set goes black?

While Curt knows far more than me, that is the EHT holdown light. As I understand it, it means that there is something amiss in you high voltage section. Either you EHT board, you quadrupler or your HV splitter (the thing in the CRT section that takes the HV from the quad and splits it to three seperate wires going to each of the three CRTs.

Hi Secstate,

well i know its not the EHT because i already tried swapping it with a known good one. Next thing I'll try is the quad and the splitter...

Just an off the wall question, when the cryon stuff leaks, can i take it from another retrodata i have and fill up the one thats leaked?

Cheers!

If you have not yet swapped your quad I'll bet that is it. Your situation sounds like my previous 1208 when its quad started going it was intermittent at first and then quickly deteriorated to going off nearly as soon as the projector was turned on. It seems that Barco quads have tendency to fail after they haven't been used for a while.

What to you mean by "cryon" do you mean the gylcol coolant used in the tubes? If so you can take it from another retro but you would better off getting some new stuff. It is relatively inexpensive in the States about $9.99US for 14 ounces which is easily enough for one tube even a 9" LC. If you do have glycol leak take care of it pronto and you better remove all the boards and clean them with some sort of circuit cleaner as the glycol will hand around and is extremely corrosive in the long run. There are plenty of stories here about problems caused 12 months later by a previous glycol leak.

Hmmm....

Its funny you should say that because thats EXACTLY whats happened... this unit was used for training videos during 98/99 then put in storage for a few years... I havent had a chance to change the quad yet, but I'll do that tomorrow :)

Thanks man!!
