17 years ago I added home theatre to our pool room with equipment setup far away from the harsh environment (chemicals and humidity spikes) using long runs of RGB coax to the room where the equipment was stored.

At the time long runs (~100 ft) of HDMI were prohibitively expensive. I ran IR sensor to a Xantech switch in the room to control Amp, CD and DVD players. All good at the time. Recent mod was to add Logitech Harmony with blasters and home automation to activate all devices including screen, projector and sub.

Failed experiment of HDMI over Cat 5e failed and I wasnt sure if there would be some disconnect (Lag) between Audio and Video.

So now the only device I have left that can run RGB via amp is my cable box so no Netflix or Prime. Everything else is only HDMI and due to security will not step down to RGB. Sad.

Q: Does the RGB have to go and it would be preferable for the Amp to be closer so that devices like Apple TV and Fire Sticks to be in range?

Reasonable $$ suggestions welcome.

What HDMI Balun did you use? Usually for anything other than gaming they are relatively effective

I get the impression the problem was with converting HDMI to RGB and related copy protection handshake issues. The gear in the pool house needs to be upgraded to HDMI compliant.

It was a monoprice Balun. Maybe another go at it with some Cat-6 cable??

The other problem tho would be remote control of stuff like apple TV and Fire Stick (which is not IR) from 100ft. I guess if I can get the HDMI video going the rest could be resolved with a Roku or something that would accept IR.

I would try HDMI over fiber optic next.
