Has anyone heard the Revel M22. How does it compare to the Revel M20 and the B & W 805? None of the local Revel dealers have the M 22 in stock, and I may seek them out when I am New York next week. Any insight would be appreciated.

I haven't heard them, but an audiophile friend with taste I trust just got some a month or two ago. I won't tell you what he said about the N805s. He's very picky, but has a very tuned ear. But your ear may be different. I know he likes accuracy and lack of coloration/distortion primarily.

Oh, sorry, he loves them. He bought them over Proac, N805s, Ruarks, Linns and a few other speakers in that range. I didn't get a real run down point by point, I just know that he likes them and he's VERY picky. I know he demands an exceptional midrange, quality bass and no obvious flaws, so I'm guessing that is what he liked about him and he didn't feel them to be flawed as others he felt were.

I've just installed 6 M22's and a C32 into my HT and so far everything is coming together really nice. In short, I think they are an incredibly detailed monitor that is more then capable of delivering true 40hz bass response. I have them all crossed over at 50hz (center is at 70hz) and am running 3 M&K MX-350's for the low end. My previous system included powered M&K's across the front and matching Tripole surrounds around the back. The sound quality of the Revels is exceptional. Revel and M&K share many of the same design principles and acoustic performance parameters making them meet my performance needs nicely. I've had M&K's most of my professional career and most of those I've owned have had limited vertical dispersion and a lack of low frequency capability do to the stringent THX specs set aside for studio monitors and some home theater designs -- this all makes sense in the THX world...but things change. In making the switch (and it was a very difficult choice to make) I wanted to get into a monitor that was every bit as good as the M&K's but was not limited to a set dispersion pattern and limited low end -- I wanted to be able to play around a bit. So far the upgrade has exceeded all my expectations. The Revels clearly have more resolution then the M&K's which gives them a greater sense of detail -- the highs are very sweet and natural sounding and movie dialogue is crystal clear at all times. Being able to lower the crossover frequency has also made the bottom end more dynamic around the room as well -- it is nice to have more bass response in the surround channels. I had originally ordered F32's for the L/R but they were backordered. I tried the M22's in the front L/R for a week and was blown away... I immediately canceled the F32's for a 3rd set of M22's -- they are that good!!! Doesn't mean I won't get the 32's down the road but for half the cost the 22's are every bit as good as long as you don't need to have 30hz low freq capability. I will be getting a new amp in the coming weeks and plan to do more critical listening and set up (digital EQ etc...) once that happens.

Oh yeah... before you by any speaker you should audition them and let you ears decide if they are right for you!!!

Thanks Leiprod

Anyone else have actual experience with the Revel M22? I am thinking of upgrading from Vandersteen 1C's to either the M22 or the B & W 805. I will be driving these with an Anthem TLP 1 / PVA 2 combination (also new).

Itrade - I was thinking of getting Vandersteen 1Cs as an upgrade to my system. What do you think if their sound? I've heard the 3s but haven't yet heard the 1Cs.

How do you find them lacking that you wish to upgrade?

Thanks - Mike

Leiprod,

Thanks for posting that opinion, I have yet to hear the M22 (or F32 or that matter). What type of pre/pro and amp do you have with the M22's?

Enigma,

I've got a TAG AV192 processor, a Sunfire Cinema Grand, and a Hafler 2 channel amp (because I came from powered LCR's I was short 2 channels and am using what I had in house for now -- hence the Hafler) in the system right now. I'll be getting a Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature Seven in the next few weeks and will report back. If that doesn't cut it I'll be moving to a Theta Dreadnaught, Bel Canto eVo's, BAT, etc until I find the perfect match. Based on the sound quality coming from my older Sunfire right now I'd say the Cinema Seven has a good shot at staying for awhile.

BTW -- I have heard the F32's and they sound nearly identical to the M22 with a more extended bottom end. While I don't feel I need them in my system right now I may still pull the trigger at some point.

Best.

I like the 1c's. They are a great buy, but the bass is slow and a little shallow for a large speaker. The 1c's are probably the best floor stander at its price point, but it has its limits. If I had it to do over again and I wanted a floor standing speaker under $2K I would go for the 2ce signatures. Look at Sterophile and you will underswtand why.

Last year I built a theater -- Yamaha DPX1000, Anthem electronics, Triad gold speakers -- installed in an accoustically designed room. I am now looking at cleaning up the family room and getting a plasma set. I also made a deal with my wife that I would downsize my family room speakers. Since I do not need another surround system I am looking at small monitors in a two speaker set up. I liked the B & W 805, but I heard good things about Revel M20. Unfortunately, none of the Revel dealers in my area have the M 22 in stock.
