5160 and 5040 refurbs.

Anyone notice that when playing a recorded show, hitting rewind on the remote will subject you to watching 2-4 seconds FURTHER into the show before it starts rewinding? I'm sure there's a technical explanation for this, but it's somewhat odd to rewind and the first thing you see is material you've not yet seen...

Anyone know why it does this?

Known issue... it's thought that it's something to do with the buffering, but we can't see why not purge back to 0 and then move back.

Smarta** comment ahead:

Isn't rewind an outdated term to use in conjunction with a DVR?

Okay, sure... whatchoo want to call it? I think will be in the 'tape' paradigm for 'commands' for a long time.

Heck, people still 'dial' phones, don't they?! :D :D

It's a "quirk" of the algorithm that tries to place you where you really want to be when you hit play while you're rewinding or fast forwarding. It's supposed to take into consideration your reflexes, that where you hit "Play" is probably a tiny bit after where you really wanted to stop. That's the technical explanation, anyways. Why it works such that hitting RW and then Play puts you forward in the program is a mystery to me as well.

Ahh, ok, I can see now how that would have an effect. No big whoop. It was just noticeable while watching Performing As when I didn't want to see the scores until my wife had a chance to watch a performance, so when I hit "rewind/reverse/review/backwards/ ;) " I saw the scores before it started to go backwards....
