There's something I don't understand : when my pj is on with no input source, all the setup patterns are out of focus. As soon as I connect a video signal, the patterns are focused. Does that mean that the pj has been unproperly set up right from the start ? ( pj is a sony 1271)

Or, to put it differently, do I really have to see all the setup patterns focused without a source being connected ?

If you mean out of convergence, then yes, that's correct. With no memory, the convergence memory will probably lock onto an unused location and as soon as you connect the signal source, it switches to the correct converged memory location.

In any case, there is no need that you try to build a correct set-up memory for no signal! I think that the default is 15 Khz, but since you do not use it, why to get bored building a correct set-up for that frequency?
