Did I read it right that in order to press play/skip/back, you have to press the 'Fn' at the same time? That's pretty stupid for an HTPC. The locations are kind of awkward too.

This is a new product. They should at least design with WMC in mind. Rather disappointing. Even the Lenovo keyboard/trackball combo has dedicated FF/FB buttons.

i have the lenovo and i like it except for 2 things

1. no backlit buttons

2. the left click button is next to the space bar sometimes causing miss hits.

hopefully the next model will have back lighting.

I agree. About 3 minutes after unpacking mine I was like, "this thing would be the BOMB if it was backlit.

I wonder if this keyboard is borrowed from a cell phone? Would be an interesting hack to get it back lit. lol

Actually, for the amount of time I actually NEED a keyboard on my HTPC, I can't complain, especially for the price. It was about half of what I paid for my full-size wireless keyboard with scroll ball. The brand escaped me at the moment.

I ordered the Rii about a month ago... have been looking for something small with backlit keys for my dark theater room. Will post my impressions

Just got my Rii in the mail today and have been using it this afternoon. Overall I love this thing! The backlit keys are perfect for my dark home theater, and it has great range. My HTPC is in a separate equipment room, probably about 15 feet away from my seat. Supposedly the charge will last a month (I haven't verified this yet of course), but as soon as you turn it on, it connects immediately. Very compact. Well worth the $50 for my setup.

I finally got my Rii in the mail yesterday and spent some time testing it.

My thoughts so far:

First, they sent me a silver remote when I specifically ordered Black. Not a fan of silver and when I inquired about it last night I was told black was out of stock and they sent the silver so I wouldn’t have to wait any longer. Too bad they didn’t give me the option of waiting or canceling…

Second, the distance the remote operates is claimed to be 30 meters. That’s no where close in my setup. My HTPC is 10-12 feet away in a cabinet behind a cloth covered door. The door has to be open for it to work. All my other IR/RF devices work fine. I’ll try repositioning the receiver using a USB extender and see what happens.

Third, it appears to install the standard Microsoft keyboard and mouse drivers when the receiver is installed, but I can’t find anywhere to turn off the touchpad tap gesture. Does anyone know how to turn that off???

Overall it’s a neat little device, backlit keys work great. The touch pad will definitely take awhile to get used too, if I can get rid of the tap… Range is my biggest issue; I need to figure that out.
