'nuff said.

This is a sad day indeed.

I owe so much to this forum, and it's very depressing to watch it fall.

I miss XANATOS :(

Did someone pass away? Is the forum closing? Why am I always the last to know these things?

/slight humor, unless it was something serious...
I'm too busy enjoying movies on my beautiful crt. There's just nothing to post in this section unless something breaks. Meanwhile those digital dorks have SDE, rainbows, dark grey masquerading as black, pinky/greeny tinged whites, dust blobs, 1-2k hour bulbs, weird dithering/motion artifacts. Big yawn.
We have huge machines in a totally dark room, hush boxes/ventilation/noise issues, low brightness, ??? hour tubes and hope for replacements, uneven colour balance brightness and focus across the screen, fungi, huge amounts of time (or money) spent on appropriate calibration... :D

Just pick your poison! I'm extremely sensitive to rainbows so DLPs are a no no, with LCDs I keep seeing the SDE on pans BESIDES as you mention the weird motion artifacts. My CRTs shortcomings do not bother me as much since they are constant, they do not "pop up" in certain scenes in a movie. But I DO acknowledge why some people might choose any one of the 3 technologies, it will simply depend on what they value the most, and what bothers them and what doesn't.

Personally I really like digitals (some of them anyways, but I even enjoy the lower end LCDs since they are good enough for gaming thus preserving the CRTs' tubes). It's just that I prefer the CRTs overall "image" mainly because I'm bothered by particular issues with the digital technologies. Still have to see SXRD in action though.

I'm prepared to be flamed now... I'm well aware all these issues I've pointed with CRTs can be overcome/lessened etc if one's willing to spend some time and/or money but so are some of the issues you mention with digitals.

Nobody ever misses me... But, I guess that's cause I'm always here.

Jesse,

You missed the latest. Seems the Ruby suffers from miss aligned panels, and not a convergence button in sight. One step forward two steps back - the digital waltz.

The only rainbow I want has a pot of gold at the end.

DITTO :D !!!
Ruby is just this years "crt killer" like the qualia was the year before it, the marantz the year before that, the sharps 9000's the year before that, the jvc lcos the year before that, the nec lt150's the year before that, etc.

It's plastic with a bronze coating.

:)
Boys' toys have never been so good and you sound like a load of spoilt prima donnas.
Well said John!

I haven't seen too many changes here really other than the CRT/digital bashing threads. 9" LC sets are more available than ever. It's all good.

Yesterday there were 72 people on this forum, I think that's the highest I've ever seen it since the counter was available on the forum...

Fool's Gold?

(I couldn't resist - anyway it's not like any digital owners will read this. Why would they bother lurking in the CRT Forum, CRT is dead :D )

There does seem to be a lot of negativity flowing around these forums. My toy is better than your toy etc... but there is a simple cure, don't get involved heh :)

No projection tech is perfect, they all have strengths and weaknesses. Pick the strengths you like and go for it... then watch your favorite movie.

Ansi contrast is the "new battleground" it's nothing new, it's just getting attention.

I don't get it, what's wrong with the forum, Raster and Dave Roth are both gone, looks like a freindliwer place than ever. BTW, where the heck is Clarence?
Mabe some of you missed the memo:

CRT PROJECTORS THROW AN ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS IMAGE!

I prefer CRT projectors as my ultimate reference for pleasurable viewing.

Big surprise there...

What happened to Raster? Got booted out, or just matured?

Chris.

I agree, the CRT forum is better than it has been in a while. W/ those 2 gone.

It sounds like sour grapes to me, i ean they come in to the CRT forum and they're suprised to find... people who lie CRT's

Gee, I like CRTs. What a surprise. Who is "they?" How come every time I say something, someone starts bringing in "they" and various other pronouns? My name is Chris, you can talk to me not in 3rd person if you want. I'm not an alien from a distant forum.

In case you were at all curious, it's these kinds of un-based accusatory statements that have alienated me as of lately.
