Hi folks

I have ripped 200 DVD films my way, ie opened up properties of video TS folder and dragged the main VOBs onto my hard drive (I think this is called raw VOBs). I did them quick, about 20 minutes for a 4.5gig disk. I also checked each VOB for the first 2 mins sound sync and they were OK. I didn't actually play the whole film at the time, now to my horror I notice that after 2mins of speech there is an out of sync by about 20 secs for the remainder of the film. The picture is perfect.

Is there anyway I can get them back in sync? I got my wife to do them this way for me and she's not best pleased at the moment. Help please.

PS I would like to thank Heli Pilot from Texas for his answer to WD HD media player as I've spent so many hours trying to find this out. I went to Texas last year, Fort Worth, San Antonio - great.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm... that is interesting. What software are you using to play your vobs? I know when I try to play a single vob in something like WMP or MPC I get weird problems, but when played via a dvd player program like cyberlink it plays fine.

Can you try re ripping one of the DVDs that you are having a problem with (just copy the entire disc instead of only grabbing the vobs) and see if you still have the same problem (try using a program like DVDFab, DVD43, DVDShrink, etc...)

Dbone is probably right. It's more likely the player than the files themselves. If you're dead-set on using that particular player, you can convert your VOB sets to a single MPG file with VOB2MPG . All players should be able to handle bog-standard mpegs.

Hi guys, thanks for the info.

I have used DVD decrypter and copied VOBs onto my HDD, this took about 1 hour, played them through MPCStar and sound out of sync. I have also used DVDFab disc to disc and took the VOBs out and put on HDD with same result. I am wondering if, how I am doing it, ie the quick way, is causing the problem? If I used a well known all in one DVD to VOB ripper, any ideas how long this would take? Strange thing is, I have copied a DVD 4.5g through DVDFab to an AVI and this took 7 hours to do, when I played that through MPCStar sound was perfect.

Also, could you explain what is the difference between a generic AVI and a standard AVI

as I am a newbee to all this technical jargon?

dbone1026 - what is WMP as I don't recognise this? Thanks.

Try some different media players. That one you are using is definitely not one of the popular ones.

It seems players like MPC dont like dvd files as much as a normal video file in a single container.

Try something like powerdvd to be sure its the files themselves. I'd try a bunch of different media players, before I start re-ripping. MPC(not the one your using), VLC, Kplayer, powerdvd, etc.

Windows Media Player (the player built into windows). WMP will certainly play back raw VOB files without issue.

Yha I used it for a dvd today actually worked pretty well. Some players dont seem to like the menus.

The combination of using

Dvdshrink:

http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/

and

Anydvd from Slysoft:

http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

Will lead to perfect rip rips almost every time , its pretty flawless , and Anydvd is updated on a very regular basis..

Many people within the media player scene have used this method for many years..

Hope this helps..

Thanks guys for your help. I have tried WMPand it plays the film OK but now got no sound at all. Is there an end to all this? it's driving me nuts at the moment.

Does anyone know what is a generic AVI is, is it the same as a standard AVI?

Cheers
