My friend who is building his own basement home theater just had his carpet laid by a "professional" who I think botched it big time. They are suppose to come back out and fix it, but I thought I would try to get your thoughts to tell him. Let me know what you think.
First, the front stage has dimples on the front of the riser lip where he put stables in the front. Shouldn't he had just stapled the underside? The only thing I can think of is that he had trouble getting a staple gun to the underside, but the floor to underside of the lip is at least 6". The front riser also is curved and I think he was having trouble keeping the carpet maintain that curve. Any tips I can tell my friend to tell the installer?
Second, The back riser looks like he botched the cut. There is a spot where an instep is and the there is not enough carpet to even cover the underside so he just tacked it to the front. Should my friend insist that they redo the whole riser? The underside of the riser lip looks very uneven. There are parts where you can stick a finger and touch wood at the joint on the underside, other parts look like there is too much. It is not an even line at the joint, it's very uneven. Even though you can't really see the the joint of the underside of the riser lip, it looks bad. Is this another reason to have the installer redo the riser?
Last but not least, the installer butchered the paint job on his walls. Granted they were painted with flat, but there is scratches all over the place. My friend will probably have to repaint all the walls. Should he insist on compensation for paint and labor?
My buddy has worked very hard on his theater. It looks incredible. To have a so called "professional" do such a crappy job is inexcusable. Let me know what you guys think should be done to correct the problems. Thanks !!
