Riser questions

I need some suggestions on riser. What is a good height? Should I insulate for sound control? Step or ramp?

Any input would be appreciated.

Have you tried searching?

There's at least 100 threads on risers. Just search the titles only in this forum for "riser"

Stew
I did search this thread and it came up with nothing.

Hi Mickey,

Welcome to the forum. Search can be unfriendly at times, but there is a lot of info out there to be dug into...

"Search this thread" only searches this thread.

Try Search

And under Search Options I usually change "Fast Search (fewer results)" to "Use only if REALLY needed (all results)"

1399 search hits on "riser"

or
48 threads in HT Builder forum with "riser" in title

I would recommend selecting the "show results as threads" option though. Much easier to weed things out that way:

Search "this thread" will obviously search only the thread you're currently reading. You need to search the forums, and you'll be reading for hours on risers...

In the meantime,

A good height is enought to see over the first row. This will depend on distance from the screen for the first and second row and height of the screen. Mine is about 9-10" high. My first row is 12 feet back and the second row is about 18' back. The screen is about 26" from the floor. I used 2 x 8"'s topped with 2" of plywood sandwich. The whole riser rests on u-boat channels to isolate the riser for the tactile transducers. I would have gone higher but knew I would be pushing it for my ceiling height. If ceiling height is not a problem, use 2 x 10"'s. I did use a step instead of a ramp. The entire riser is insulated except for the immediate area around the transducer.

I posted pictures of my riser construction (25) with my signature in this Thread and two others, late last year. Everyone of you must have viewed it since as of today it has been "Hit" 7,072 times! It's a shame I'm not selling anything with that much traffic. My Brother said that maybe people think it is a porn site?

There's also a riser calculator in a sticky thread at the top of this forum.
