RNG200 HD DVR has problems and gets slow

I've been using Comcast's DVR's for years, back when it was still Adelphia. before Comcast bought them out. The 8300HD DVR cable box was pretty good, but when one of mine failed badly recently, I managed to get a new RNG200, after the refurbished replacement 8300 failed immediately.

The RNG200 seems to be a reasonably good box. But with use, it slows down tremendously when scrolling in the guide, or doing anything. It can sometimes take 3 seconds for the focus to move to the adjacent time slot in the guide. The fix here is to reboot the RNG200 cable box regularly - it is always much faster after being rebooted

It also has some problems every so often with displaying an incorrect timeline when I pause a program that was fully recorded, showing the current position incorrectly, and not showing a full green area for the recording. The usual cure here is to exit that situation, and then go back in, and it usually corrects itself.

Another problem is that suddenly the sound may disappear. The usual fix is to PAUSE the program, and then restart it.

All in all, the 8300 HD DVR was much better - but it is no longer being made.

Have any of you out there experienced the problems I see in the RNG200?

Hey Ron. I actually have a 8300HDC right now that seems to be acting up. It gets hung up alot and has turned completely off a few times recently. I think Im gonna turn it in.

When I called Comcast they said my local office has 8300s, but I think its BS cuz a friend of mine got a RNG200 and they told him thats all they hand out now.

So has your RNG200 updated to the new guide yet? Just curious if your still hating it after the new update. Its a much more capable box hardware wise then the 8300 so Im surprised to hear its giving you so many problems.

I have those same problems with my RNG200. I'm still on the old guide.

The slowness of the guide is especially frustrating if I'm trying to go from the morning to the evening to record. I usually hit the button too many times and have to sit and wait for it to stop moving.
I swapped my 8300HD for the RNG200 yesterday. After one night im loving it. Its got the same new guide my 8300 had but it seems to handle it way better. Everything is very snappy. And it might make no sense but the picture seems slightly sharper.
I have the RNG200 with the old guide, and I experience exactly what you describe... scrolling through the guide ends up being horrendously slow after a while.

Comcast is deploying the new guide market-to-market for the RNG200 which should help things a bit: (must copy/paste URL, I have less than 3 posts so I can't link) dslreports.com/forum/r25074506-Tru2way-Guide-Talk-is-Back
