Whats everyones opinon on the New arriving Rocket UFW-10 Subwoofer coming at the end of the month? Has anyone heard any specs on this new addition to the rocket fleet?

Should I match this sub up with the rocket system I am going to order or should I go with a SVS sub?? I know its tough without actually seeing the rocket sub in action since it hasnt hit the streets yet..

Thanks!

I haven't listened to any of these subs, but I have heard very good things about the UFW-10. I have the 750s for FL and FR and just last week, I purchased and SVS PC+46-16. It blends very well with the 750s crossed over at 80Hz. I used a Behringer feedback destroyer with ETF software for equalization. I will be assembling a Marchand crossover in the next month and moving to a new house where I will be doing some extensive testing. As of now, here are my observations.

I have a studio recorded drums track (the best drums I have ever heard) that I believe goes down and down and down. I don't know how low it goes but it goes pretty low. PC+46-16 delivers very powerful bass that you can feel in your guts and yes it sounds incredible. However, when I play just the 750s without the sub, the "attack and decay" was breathtaking !! I couldn't get the same feeling with an Infinity HPS-1000 (sold) nor the PC+. There is something special about the 750s crossover and drivers that is truly unique. It is difficult to explain, you just have to hear it. Now what has the 750s got to do with the UFW-10 or the PB1 ????

Well, I believe the UFW-10 is designed with this very same "attack and decay" in mind. I know and understand that it will not be as fierce as the SVS PC+46-16, but I am sure if you are looking for something with unique musical capabilities, the UFW-10 maybe the one. I don't know if the UFW-10 will do it but I am hoping it would because I would like to see some lower extension for the 750 without compromising on the "attack and decay". I may end up having two subs with the UFW-10 for music and for movies use both or just the PC+ if calibration for a flat response becomes complicated. I will post my impressions as soon as I receive a UFW-10. I am very interested to know what you find out about the PB1-ISD. SVS being a company with passionate audiophiles and a rock solid reputation, will not disappoint you with any model. It is just a matter of what your taste is.

Hope that helps,

-Jai

jmcomp124,

Hopefully we can get some of the AV123 staff to post in here the spec's of the Rocket UFW-10 along with how they feel it will compare to other competitors models out there.. Do they recommend this sub for music or HT use only, or for both? What kind of connections does it have? etc...

Thanks for your input!!

Jai,

I've got the alpha UFW-10 sub in my possession right now and i believe it does have that attack and decay that you are speaking of...i have heard that drum solo you're referring to but i don't have a copy of it so i haven't heard it w/ the alpha UFW-10 sub...but w/ Enya's Orinoco Flow, i must say the bass was tight, tuneful and had that "attack & decay"...hope this helps...the production model is supposed to be better...

Frank,

As far as specs go, the UFW-10 is speced at 25Hz but it doesn't mean that it is the lowest it can go. I have personally tested the 750s and they go below the 40Hz comfortably in my room with no sign of strain. Here is the latest news on the UFW-10

Mad Dog (Is there any other name you go by... I hate to call you by this name :)

You are lucky to get this so early. Mark has me on the list and I hope to get a sample soon. Any word about the Onix ref sub ?

Thanks,

Frank,

It is best that we do not ask the av123 staff to post their impressions on competitors. It could lead to an unproductive debate and eventual closure of the thread. They can help with specs and recommendations, but I hate to pull them into competitive analysis. I am an end user and so is Mad Dog and there are others here in the list who do not work for the company but just love their products and their people. They keep us happy and entertained with the best value and outstanding quality. It is from such people and people like you who can take two samples, compare and post your honest opinions. If you happen to get an SVS PB-1-ISD it would be great to see a comparison.

Thanks,

-Jai

Ok, I'm curious. Mad Dog doesn't work for Onix, or av123, but he does have the perk of being the first, or one of the first to audition certain products. How does this happen? How many people get to "review" the products before they are available? Does Mad Dog get a discount on the product, should he decide to keep it?

It's rather simple, actually. :p He asked them to be a "beta/alpha" tester. I am sure they'll decide who to give what. I am not sure if he gets any more discounts than others if he decides to keep it.

The thing is he asks, and they know about him (his gears, his audio preferences and experience), so he gets one.

Hi Craig,

Mad Dog doesn't have any "perks" other than being an AV123 customer. We give ALL of our customers the same treatment we show Mad Dog, and any of the products he owns, with the exception of the subwoofer (I'll explain that in a minute) are available to ANYONE that calls us here.

With respect to the subwoofer, Mad Dog hosted a Rocket gathering a few weeks ago that our President himself attented. The purpose was just to hang out, talk about audio, and for Mark Schifter to physically meet some of the people that we interact with on a weekly basis. From the conversations I've had since then, seems it was a pretty enjoyable time (a little bit of listening, words from Mark, and then a big dinner on the pres himself...don't know of many other owners, CEO's, or pres's that would make that kind of an attempt just to meet the people that support his business). Before heading out, Mark decided to send Mad Dog our prototype UFW-10 that we've had now for several months...so that those in attendance could finally hear what we'd been telling them for a LONG time. Mark simply allowed Mad Dog to hold onto the sub until the first units release...as after hearing this bad-boy, you do NOT want to go back. That's the story, and that's all.

Now, with respect to the sub itself, we actually don't have the final numbers and data yet, as the actual unit was enlarged and tuned a bit differently to give us just a bit more low-end power and maximum output. Once we have the specs, you'll see them on our site and our forum, but probably not here as they'll immediately be labeled as "marketing."

If this isn't the truth....I've never heard it:D

I've never had somebody dead set on "doing the customer right" like Steve has been with me.

Super service, super people.

I "understand" your *curiosity* craigdcan... ;)

What Steve followed up with are the facts... The alpha UFW-10 that was sent was a "mule" so to speak... beat up... not 100% right... but it gave everyone a good chance to hear where we are coming from with subs...

On to your other question... I asked for and received 12 volunteers for beta testing... As many of you know... we beta EVERYTHING and we require a fairly rigorous reporting process... it takes lots of work. Many Rocket beta testers can attest to the fact I even had them changing internal batting and dampening materials... measured and weighed and then sent in for install and evaluation... I had made some discoveries late in the game...

Same for XO's on the RS 750's... but that's another story...

*IF* the beta tester decides to keep the gear we DO allow for a substantial discount from the list price as our way of saying thanks...

I've beta tested products for many companies... and this is the fair and right thing to do... It's up to the participant...

Hope this clarifies the situation and satisfies your inquiry...

All the best...

Very cool. I'd love to be a beta tester for any speaker manufacturer. It would be cool to know that you had a little input into tweaks, etc. no matter how small they may be....or at least recommendations as to what you'd like to see.

Just to satisfy everyone's curiosity, I was actually asking out of curiosity, and not accusing anything.

They'd prob let you if you just promise to post all kinds of good stuff about the products (maybe a negative or two, but be sure to remind everyone that it's just a beta) to get the hype going on a pre-release. ;)

I think we shouldn't even respond to post like these as they lead to the thread being closed. Just continue the conversation as if no one has said anything.

Understood...

Please join a beta team for some of the upcoming models...

You can e-mail me at [email protected]********** and we can discuss it...

I'll be traveling quite a bit over the next few days though...

We have a strict rule of never asking anyone to post... If you search around a bit in the monster thread you'll see this...

The ONLY thing I ask that if you DO decide to post that you do so in a COMPLETELY honest and forthright way... I do not want any interference from any additional beta testers etc.

We often will not tell everyone who is in the group until whatever / the posting is done... then we let everyone know...

BTW... I am not mad either... :)

Wishing you all the very best...

Yeah, I was mostly kidding. I'm just pickin' on these guys because I see thier posting so frequently regarding non-support issues as marketing. I'll get over it soon, besides, i cannot possibly keep up with all the Rocket threads they post in!! ;)

'scuse me.
