I have been waiting patiently for a solid, intuitive solution to bass management and digital room correction with a HTPC audio card and analog outs for some time now. The hardware side seems to be going nowhere currently, however the software side is moving more quickly. Let me know what you think of a possible setup like this:

Prodigy 7.1LT sound card with NSP for real-time VST plugin use

This will handle volume control per channel and possible up-mixing of

2 channel sources to multichannel as well as Direct-Wire which can

reroute inputs/outputs as necessary.

(This is exactly the same thing as what the NSP does, just stand-alone)

Bass Management 7.1 Channel VST plugin

Pristine Space 7.1 channel convolution engine VST plugin

Audio Delay for speaker distance variations(4 instances of plugin running at once)

Multichannel .WAV impluse response generation tools

I bet the CPU usage would be high.

Does this look to be the most well put together system for DRC on a HTPC?

My god, this is such a good idea.

Theoretically, couldn't you use one of the new DD hardware decoders (or a beta of AC3 decoder) to encode it BACK to DD for your external processor: 1 wire. Easy as pie.

I would guinea pig this if it didn't take so much time to set up and if I had a good enough system or the money required to set this up.

I would really like to hear peoples' ideas on this topic.

Heck, even if we only started at the bass management side and went to complete equalization later, that would be a great start.

Thanks for the cool links Swanson.

EDIT: It also realized that you could pick your own level of equalization. Want the bass louder? Bump up below 80 or 60hz. Getting a bit old and can't hear those tweaters like you used to (no offense fellas)? Bump up the high end. This seems to be a problem with those AutoEQ on various recievers. Many people A/B between them and prefer the UN-EQed sound for various reasons. The potential here is just amazing.

Umm unless you run the analog connections it's likely to do more harm than good....

Lossy DD -> decode -> DRC/EQ -> DAC->Encode lossy DD-> decode-> DAC ->Amp->Speaker

Compared to

Lossy DD -> decode -> DRC/EQ -> DAC ->Amp->Speaker

---------------------

I'm hoping the Ffdshow audio filter Convolver is tweaked so it will work with same number of taps as the files for DRC in Foobar - then we are good to go.

I downloaded the spinaudio app and though it has potential to support external sources (another HTPC as PrePro sore point) I could not figure out how to get it to process sound on my mAudio 1010LT the way that NSP is implied to work on the Prodigy.... specifically I was playing a stereo wave file with JRMC set for ASIO to the 1010LT and loaded up the spinaudio app with the voxengo bass management vst plugin, and could not figure out how to get bass redirected to the subwoofer without getting all sorts of wild feedback.... does the spinaudio app support multichannel wave ???

would be nice if the spinaudio app appeared as a renderer the way that reclock does...

:confused:
