Room gear questions

199 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Soulburner
I have a bedroom that measures out to about 1550cubic feet, and I'd like to know if placing 2x svs p2000 is to much for the room. I'd also like to know of a better set of lcr speakers for the same room, as I purchased the mica mb42x + matching center mb42x-c, and I'm having second doubts as to whether I should have spent more and not buy twice (I have a few days left to return them).. my research points me to the ELAC Uni-fi UB5  and matching center, but that might be to much for the size of my room (?), and I dont know if I'll get 5x worh of performance compared to the mica. Your help is much appreciated .
95% movies / games 5%music. I have a marantz nr1608 as avr.

Thanks in advance.

I never met anyone who regretted buying a large TV, and similarly have never met anyone who regretted spending money on speakers (they might regret the dent it made in their budget, but not felt the money was wasted if that makes sense). More money does allow better design, so spending 2-3X as much does tend to get better sound. I'd also observe that 4" woofers in the Mica's are small, so larger woofers would be better. I haven't heard the Mica but I can say ELAC has quite good sound; Andrew Jones is a very talented speaker engineer. Try to get to 6" woofers if you can. Also if you can step the center up to their Uni-Fi line, the coaxial mid/tweet avoids "Venetian blind" dispersion problems (as would a 3-way center from SVS etc)

No such thing as too much speaker for the room, but sealed subs would be my recommendation.
