I snagged a 12ft rool of rope light and it works well. I was just wondering if these can be dimmed? I was thinking about adding an outlet just for it that connects to my main lighting controlled by a dimmer switch. Will these dim?

There are two types of rope lights. Low voltage, which can't be dimmed and those that use normal 110V current that can. Easy enough to tell them apart, as the low voltage ones will have some sort of transformer, whereas the 110V will not.

Yes, I dim mine - the key is the transformer. No transformer means you can dim them safely.
