What is a good brand/source for rope lighting recommended in a theater for a cove? Are they all about the same brightness ( 1/2 watt bulbs) or are there different intensity levels available?

Don't know if there are dramatic differences but I used WAC rope lighting for the cove in my dining room. It's been there for about 4-5 years now with zero problems. No change in light output and no darkening of the plastic jacket with the clear rope lighting I installed.

Here is what I used. Great price and lower wattage (ie, lower electrical cost) then most. I went with the Pearl White. You do not really want the clear since it will show "spotting" vs a smooth appearance.

UL approved lighting can not be cut by the consumer or electrician, you have to ordered it to length. Non-UL approved can be purchased in bulk (spools) and cut to length as needed. Depending on the brand, there are usually pre-determined cut points ranging from a few inches to a couple of feet.

When you by the bulk / spool, you can also purchase the connectors. There are even T connectors available.

Here's another link with additional information, including the UL ruling.

Good luck.
