I've been trying to do a firmware upgrade to my Rotel 1098 for a while and keep running into the same problem; I can't input anything via HyperTerminal. Evertime I'm prompted to input 1, 2 , or 3, I cant type anything.

I'm using a PC running XP, however, I changed the compatability of HyperTerminal to 98 and have followed the directions to the letter.

Please guys, please help me!

Also, I've already tried to find something about this over at Club Rotel, but for some reason the site is not letting me register for an account.

Hyperterminal may have echo off. Try typing 1/2/3 as required and hit enter.

I'd either post your problems at the Club Rotel section of HTGuide.com or call Rotel on Monday. They'll walk you through the firmware upgrade process and, hopefully, figure out what is going wrong.

You can test your com port by shorting out pins 2 and 3 (transmit and receive). Then when hyperterm is opened type "test". Select the com port with the loop back connector on it. What you type on your keyboard should echo back on the hyper term session.
