My Sony 65" XBR RPTV occassionally blanks out for a second or two during Satelite TV reception. Its seems to do so only when there is a surge of luminance in the image. The blank screen is preceded and followed by a bent distortion of the image for a fraction of a second. Any idea what would cause this to occur?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a power supply or voltage regulator as I would recall from viewing Video Essentials -- a HT setup DVD. They show how blooming and bending of straight lines is a sign of weak power circuits. You could try their tests/patterns and evaluate it yourself.

Sorry that doesn't get you fixed, but you COULD be overdriving the set. Using VE to get better adjustment could reduce the demand on the PS and eliminate these occurances.

Hope this helps...

Silverscreen,

You say this happens during sat. TV watching so I assume it does not happen when watching DVD for example. My SONY can sometimes be whacked by scene cuts, bright flashes, generally big changes. It does it a lot during CSI Vegas which has a lot of dark scenes with flashy changes. Do you get a display of the input signal type e.g. 1080i showing up on the resynch? That's how I know it is the TV reacting to the signal from the box. Although, all of the three boxes I have had for HD cable have given this behavior.

Well,

The battle has begun, SONY disavows any knowledge of ANY service bulletins of any kind on the KP-53HS10, not 442R3 or SBR9911 the "reference" on the bottom of the SB printout. My "Phillips Priority Service PLUS" 5 year extended warranty says S.B. has the effect of a recall and not their problem call SONY. SONY stuck it in my ear last year for a smoked receiver during a lightning storm ( which didn't cook the lightning protection strip so no help with their $10k coverage) Basicly this warranty stuff is BS, but SONY has definately fallen off my approved Vendor list.
