RTV Convert and ULead Studio

I thought that in order to take a Replay MPEG and use it on stand alone DVD player, the MPEG had to be filtered through RTVEdit; then the edited stream ran through RTVConvert. Then the converted stream can be used on a DVD authoring program.

But, I was able to take a Replay MPEG and import into Ulead Studio 7 and then create a new MPEG file for DVD burning. I haven't tried burning the disc, so i don't know if this will ultimately be successful. But I always thought that authoring programs won't process Replay MPEG's.

Can someone clarify?

I stopped using RTVedit once VideoReDo became available. I use VideoReDo to strip out unwanted parts of the ReplayTV MPEG and then use TMPGEnc DVD Author or Nero to create and burn the DVD. It always works perfectly.
It depends on the software you use. Some (Ulead, Nero) can burn Replay files natively, but others need to transcode.

The version of Sonic MyDVD that came with my new Comaq doesn't re-encode if the show is recorded in medium, but it does re-encode standard quality shows. (I haven't tried high quality yet.)
Thanks for the info, I'll try burning a CD straight from an MPEG stream.

I do have a question for a program I burned. I ran RTVedit and convert for a program that I recorded in High. I then imported it to ULead Studio and burned a disk. When I played it on a stand alone DVD player, it played fine, but it was somewhat blurry and jittery in motion sequences of the program (its a racing show). So I ran the MPEG streams from my computer using Windows Media and the picture looks fine in both the Replay MPEG and the converted MPEG.

Why am I getting this subtle jitter on motion portions of the program. Is this fault of the authoring program.

It might be. I have always recorded everything at high quality and have downloaded hundreds of recordings and burned them to DVD and have never seen a jitter problem. As stated above, I use Nero or TMPGEnc DVD Author to convert the Replay MPEG to a DVD.

High quality streams can, and will in a racing scenes, exceed DVD spec's. Software players don't have a problem with this, but stand alones can.
