Hi,

I am planning to buy 130" 2.35:1 Screen. I have an option to buy one of the above two models with reasonable discount with runco being 500 dollars more expesnive than Sony.

I have couple of questions:

1. Can i use these projectors with my 2.35:1 screen.

2. Which is better for 2d.

3. Which is better for 3d.

Regards

Ok just realized that runco doesn't do 3d:) so runco is out of the running.

Now, I can buy Sony HW55ES for 500 dollars more than PT-AE8000. I am getting a huge discount from a friend who has sony dealership. The only issue is that with HW55es i cannot do 2.35:1 screen.

I can fit both 130" 2.35:1 screen as well as 135" 16:9 screen in my room.As per my calculation, effective screen size of 2.35 movie projected onto 130" 2.35 screen is almost the same as 135" 16:9 screen. (in square inches 6088 vs 5888)

.

So should i go with sony and 135" screen or panny and 130" screen?

As i have not sampled 2.35:1 ratio screen, does having blackbars "on screen" instead having them "above and below" destroys the viewing experience?

If you have the extra cash go with the Sony. Once calibrated it's going to be quite a bit brighter for 2D. It's going to have better contrast and overall IQ. While the Sony doesn't have motorized lens memory, you can still manually zoom the lens if you want to use a 2.35:1 screen. Or, possibly down the road, add on an anamorphic lens.

Seegs108, just read your "projectors I've owned" link.  You must either be  a projector dealer or on a never-ending search for the perfect picture.
