Hi guys,

I currently have a core i7 computer that I use to run my plex server because I stream very large files, mkv 1080p , to a roku 3. It transcodes very well and I get no buffering issues. However, the time has come to expand. Im looking at a synology nas. My concerns with a nas are that my main computer with plex will be streaming mkv files from a nas. This has me concerned with speed issues. Will there be any?

How will the NAS be connected to the computer if you have gigabit connection (also include routers and switches)going to the computer running the plex server you should be okay.  May be overkill, but may want a incoming and outgoing network card on the plex server as well.

The closer you have it to the NAS the better is a general rule.

Those mkv's are max 15-30Mbps, right? Over a 1Gbps cabled connection, there shouldn't be any issues (I use such a setup, never had a bandwidth problem).
