I am hooking up a Russound CAS44 controller to a Russound DPA-6.12 external amplifier. The CAS44 has no preamp outs and outputs 20 watts/channel nominal. The DPA-6.12 amp has a 400mv maximum input level.

I am using Sonance OP3 line-level adapters with a 30db drop and am unsatisfied with the output from the amp, it seems too weak even with the amp gains maxed out.

Is the 30db drop cutting the output too much? How much db drop will get the 20watt output down to the 400mv maximum amp input level and how is this calculated?

Any assistance would be appreciated!

Hmmm, no replies - let me rephrase this.

If I replace the 30db-drop adapters with 20 or 10db-drop adapters, will this increase the output from the amp? It seems to me it would have the same effect as turning up the gains, but I'm not an electrical engineer.

Anyone out there using line-level adapters between their controllers and amps?
