Here is my question: If I put S-Video into my Reciever (looking at Yamaha 630 - since my Sony does not have component) Can I use the component out.

In other words, will S-Video into a receiver give Component out?

Thanks!

After looking at the web page I think it just passes component through and doesn't do conversion. Most receivers don't. It didn't look like Yammy's flagship RX-Z1 could do it either.

Look at this link. The Denon 5803 can do this (at a much higher price).

FWIW, I have a Yamaha DSP-A1 integrated amp and have been very happy with it.

Normally no. I am told that there are a very few receivers where the answer is yes.

Nothing is gained by the ability to convert S-video to interlaced component video externally other than being able to avoid having to select your input source at the TV.

The TV converts S-video into component video anyway (and then continues the conversion to RGB).

If it is progressive component video you want, most external de-interlacers convert S-video.
