Not a "TOTAL" Noob here. But here's what I Got. Setting up my buddys Hitachi 51F59 CRT rear projection (I talked him into one when I got one as well when Sears ran 'em for $699).

He had standard Comcast Cable + 27" CRT so this was a huge upgrade for him.

I had him upgrade to Digital Comast + HD Service.

The HD Channels come in great after tweaking the settings. BUT ABC, CBS, NBC, DSC, ESPN do NOT come in at all. ESPN2 comes in GREAT, but not the ones listed.

Called "SUPPORT" they sent the signal, reset the box ETC ETC. I combed TONS of thread here and changed alot of the settings...

I've got the STB on 1080i. The HD channels I can get come in GREAT.

The others don't come in at all.

I ended up going into the diagnostics of the STB and tried to find the QAM level on a Digital non HD channel, and it was -4, BUT it displayed ANALOG not digital.

I'm using component cable from STB to TV.

MY buddy and his wife are THRILLED with the PQ on even non HD channels, and are amazed by the HD Channels WE DO GET...but I'm stumped about the HD channels we don't get.

They are sending a tech on Monday...but I honestly think that the line itself needs upgraded...

I had the same issue in my last house, I upgrade to digital from analog and they ended up digging up the entire line and replacing it...

Any suggestions here?

Thanks

Chris

BTW I'll have plenty more questions, we move into our new house next week and our new 51f59 will be installed and I've got questions about my current HTIB and my now dead DVD player....

I'm having a problem very similar to the one your friend is having. Ever since upgrading my STB to an HD model, I've lost 90% of my channels. I get a handful of HD channels (including all of my local networks: NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS) and a couple of SD channels, but nothing else. All of the channels I get are in a contiguous series (approx. channels 200-220). I should be getting HBO but I get it in neither HD or SD on that box. Comcast's tech support, as usual, has been useless. On Demand works flawlessly, and the channels that I get come in great, but so far Comcast has been unable to tell me why my STB is not displaying any other channels.

A belated update. comcast sent a tech, he checked the line coming in and seemed fine. Turns out my buddy had split the main line off several times coming into the house. After installing a signal amp on the line, everything seems great now.
