SA8000HD and Denon receivers

419 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  59wayne
I just purchased a Denon AVR 1705 receiver and am stunned that the remote with the SA8000HD (AT8400-B) does not support Denon receivers. Therefore, to watch TV, I have to use the Denon remote to adjust volume and the SA remote for all other functions such as channel and PVR features. Has anyone found a Denon code or workaround without investing in a Harmony or similar remote? My older SA set top remotes (AT2400) work fine with the Denon receiver but then I still need the 2 handed operation (1 in each hand) to use the PVR features and adjust volume accordingly. Anyone able to help me out??????

Thanks.

There are other options for remotes that control the SA-8000HD. Yet they are still ment for the SA box (not the usual all-in-one remote).

Look at this one: UR5-8400

If has four codes for a denon receiver, setup as AUX.

Buy me one too, please. :)

That's what I find frustrating! My provider, Rogers, supplies an AT8400 remote with the SA8000HD that won't support Denon receivers, only Denon DVD players. I talked to a tech at Scientific Atlanta, to ask about getting this other AT8400 like the one you have posted which clearly supports Denon receivers. They cannot sell to an individual, only their provider client base. Rogers won't buy one just for me :(

The 2 remotes look identical BTW. I've tried all the listed codes from the other remotes to no avail! Why would SA make 2 so close to being identical? Ugggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

I would take back the remote to my provider and ask for the different remote that actually has the denon code. Just say that your remote busted and you want a certain remote to control your components.
Somebody on the 8000HD Yahoo user group (funny, but there is one!) got their remote off of E-bay. Might try there. My provider is Knology in Huntsville, and I got the AT8400 with 5 component controller setting.

Sorry, but I only get "spare" remotes when I cancel the service and return a box. This DVR box wont be going back any time soon. :)
I finally got around to programming my remote. I discovered that it had more devices to control than the 8400 shown above. Mine has

CBL

TV

Audio

DVD

Aux

Cool huh? Well, not so much. The codes they put in don't control a darn thing. For my receiver, all I got was volume/power/mute. the number buttons control some random stuff, none of which is useful. None of the TV codes for Mistubishi control my new 52" DLP. Even the Samsung DVD code (only one) doesn't do much of anything for my DVD player, except maybe power it on.

What a waist of an other wise good remote.

I understand your frustration. All we want to do is watch TV and do all the functions this new technology has given us, but they can't supply remotes to keep up with it. I know Harmony and Universal Remote can do all the functions, but can they do so in a simple, logical button placement? Especially for the PVR functions?
