Say I'm recording the World Series which is scheduled for 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm on the schedule, but it's running long. Example: If I press "Record" at 9:15 pm and it starts recording from that point on. Then the PVR stops recording at 11:00 pm but the game is currently in the 7th inning. Is there some way to extend the recording without starting another recording at 11:00:01 pm. (I do not mean scheduling a future recording)

Thanks, bfdtv. That's precisely what I would do if I am programming the 8000 to record a future program.

But what if the program's already started, and in the case of my example: say, the Game is in the 3rd inning or something. If I press "Rec" then, it would be recorded from that point on (or if I began tuning in FOX at 8:00, then it goes back to record at 8:00), but it will stop recording at the scheduled 11:00 pm, not 12:27 am or whatever.

If you check the Guide, there is another FOX affiliate program coming at 11:00 pm, followed by another one at 11:30 pm, and another one at 12:00 midnight..... (all of those will be pre-empted if the game runs long)

Do I have to press "record" at 11:00, 11:30, and 12:00, until the game ends -- when I press "stop" ?

And if I already programmed the thing to record for 3 hours, but somehow during those 3 hours I changed my mind and want to record 5 hours? Can I still change it?

JCL,

Did you try pressing record from the guide (while the program is on) rather than from the program?

Depends on your version of SARA. Some versions had a bug where you couldn't edit a recording (wouldn't save the changes), so you had to cancel and re-create it.

Answer: I didn't use the Guide. I just pressed "Record" from the program while it was already on.

Another question: you mean you can still change the ending time while you're recording the program - assuming my box got the right firmware? Is this just for scheduled recordings, or ones I started in mid-programs?

Go into "List" and "SEL" the game. It will have a red circle with a white dot ("record") next to it. You should get options and one should be something like "extend end time".

Important question: Does your box have Passport or SARA software ?? If it looks like 'bfdtv's' shot above, I'm guessing that's SARA 'cause it sure doesn't look like my Passport version. Reason I ask is because they do function differently and have different features, options, etc.

Well, try pressing it from the guide. You've got to click record from the guide to extend time for a program in progress.

Not sure, don't recall ever having edited a recording while it was in progress. Try it and see.
