When I record Law and Order (the original) on the SA8000HD, upon playback the audio drops everytime when the commercials are over and the Law and Order show is starting. I've recorded 5 different Law and Order episodes over the past month and this audio drop occurs on all of them and it occurs everytime the above scenario takes place. It then takes about 5 seconds to start getting audio again.

I have the SA8000HD wired via digital out into my Arcam AVR100.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I can't even schedule a recording and have it be succesful.

I can't even get my digital audio out to be consistant.

Is this the digital audio? Are you having the box doing other things? I've noticed mine gets very upset when I have it thinking too much.

Sorry I can't help, I'm out looking for answers myself.

Scott Osmond:

There is a well known problem with the 8000HD re: audio drop outs. I believe it depends on your software, though. If you have SARA, the latest versions are supposed to fix the problem. If you have Passport, I don't know.

I have an outdated version of SARA and audio drop outs happen when you get a dark screen, such as rolling movie credits and switching between scenes where there is a dark screen briefly. When the audio comes back, it sometimes is at a much lower level and I have to backspace to fix it.

I suggest you check into it with your cable company.

Well, I have a new box now, and far less errors with it.

I have noticed an audio anamoly similiar to what you and Jim are explaining. I too have SARA.

When I play back and HD movie, with DD5.1, the Audio will cut in/out as the movie is begining. It is ROCK SOLID while the feature is playing. At the end, it will do the in/out thing. From what Jim said, this is caused by the black screens. Perhaps it could even happen during a movie, should a pause be introduced in the movie. Regardless, the audio always comes back, and very quickly too.

Good luck. (perhaps you can try the fiber port and see if it just a simple hardware issue with re-activating the port?)
