I have recently moved and using my Sony SACD/DVD DVP-NS999ES player as a CD/SACD only usage. I don't even have the video hooked up to my system as I use my bluray players for that. I have the proper analog cords inputed to my amp, and it seems all my hybrid CDs won't play the multi channel layer. Whatever I do, the front panel only displays "CD" rather than SACD. I try to preset it and on the led remote choose SACD and MULTI, but it goes back to normal CD only once I insert the CD.

Any suggestions...

Thanks...

John:

I had 2 999ES units for many years, one only used for CD/SACD and the other for DVD. After about 5 years or so, I encountered the same problem as you have on the CD/SACD unit. At about the same time, I upgraded to a SONY BDP-S500 Blu-ray for my movie watching.....so, I figured switch over the 999ES unit, should be OK as it was never used for CD/SACD.......exactly the same result (problem?) not playing most hybrid discs, single layer played fine. (multiple trys would get the SACD layer when it first started but then very rarely would it not default to CD).

I brought in one of the units to the local dealer and tried a lens cleaning and an alignment, but no use....tech got in touch with SONY Canada and they indicated maybe the laser was "wearing out". I decided against the repair as there was no guarantee that was the problem and ended up getting a PIONEER D9 player (stereo only, but I was not equipped for 5.1 SACD anyway). Why both went at the same time the DVD unit had over 5000 hours of use while the CD/SACD unit had only just over 200 hours!

Hope this helps, but it is probably a bad sign....
