SACD on Sony 775

Hey guys,

Bear with me for I am a newb when it comes to the SACD stuff. Right now I have my Sony hooked up to my Onkyo receiver using a toslink connection and hooked up to the tv using component. Now for me to get the SACD to work I need to hook up regular RCA cables from the back of the Sony to the receiver using the front, left, center, rears and sub on both items. Is there anything I have to do then as far as settings in the audio section of the dvd player? Will I have to change anything on my receiver?

Also if I play a dvd while hooked up with toslink and the analogs which one will take precedence? Will it go to the toslink, or go to the analogs? Just wondering ...and thanks for the input.

I do not know your specific player but you might have to access the setup menus to specify which speakers you have and what size they are.

Start on pages 80-84 for audio and speaker setup. You will want to set the size of your speakers, distance, and db levels. You can use the "test tone" provided or Avia if you have it for assistance in getting the proper db levels.

Well, I don't own a Onkyo but does it not have an option for External Input? Thats what you'd need to use for SACD as its Analog Input in the end. Now if your DVD player supports DD/DTS then it'll be used bypassing the receiver's decoder. You could switch back to DVD input to use your toslink.

Hope this helps.

My Sony has a 5.1 button if you want to use that input, otherwise it will use whatever the DVD input is set for (i.e. digital (toslink), analog (coax) or automatic. If set to automatic it will detect the signal (i.e. digital or analog) and if it detects both will default to digital.
Hey Chemop. How do you like the sony 775? Our HT systems are pretty similar. Same tv but I have the onkyo ht-s570 system. I'mcurrently looking into gettin the sony. Did you find it a waste of $ since you already have the onkyo doing the decoding?
Not a waste of money at all. Great player and I am really impressed with the picture quality. I have not noticed a problem. My onkyo is doing the decoding with toslink connection. I want to do the SACD to hear how it sounds. A buddy of mine gave me an SACD sample cd to try.

I did read the manual on pages 80-84. I have RCA cables (red and white) but what are monoaural cables? It is in the beginning of the manual in the connections section and it has the sub and center being hooked up with monoaural cables. I imagine if I hook up these cables and then do the speaker set up then I am good. But if I have both the RCA connections and the toslink connection, which one would take precedence if I put on a dvd to play? Would it try to use the Sony decoders or use the Onkyo decoding. Just wondering....
