Saints Row on PS3, which was expected in Q1, has been cancelled. We are rolling the resources onto Saints Row 2, said CFO Edward Zinser in a quarterly conference call.

The game is slated for release in 2008 as an anchor title for THQ on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game is in development by Volition, developer of the original Saints Row, which launched in August 2006.

THQ CEO Brian Farrell added that having a simultaneous multiplatform release for Saints Row 2 took precedence over developing what would essentially be a port.

Seems like a good idea. It's release date was creeping dangerously close to October.

What was on october? GTAIV?

Think they'll be able to get any good ideas for their 2008 release?

Saint's Row did well both on scoring and sales. They had a hysterical feature in the insurance scam and multiplayer (Though not co-op for the grenre that pioneer was Crackdown) not to mention great free form aiming unlike the GTA series. I wonder if Rockstar will copy some of that...

Just saw this:

THQ reported its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31 today, and the company posted record revenues that topped $1 billion. It was the 12th consecutive year that the publisher grew its annual revenues, and it put up similarly record-breaking profits of $64 million to boot.

THQ's highlights for the year included the release of Saints Row on the Xbox 360. The original intellectual property and open-world action game racked up more than 1 million units in sales.

Its a shame PS3 only owners will miss out on SR.

Gangsters wannabes must be sad.

Then again, I really doubt it's healthy to play games that have you impersonate individuals who populate our overcrowded jails.

I guess I'll never get GTA, Saint's Row, Crackdown or any of those "be a bad person" games.

as long as the second is at least as good as the first, i'm sure they won't mind. i really don't care, but then again, i'm not really a fan of SR or GTA.

In GTA and saints row your gang members. In crackdown your a genetically grown super cop and hurting innocents makes the game harder. The game actually rewards you with taking out enemies creatively without hurting innocents. Side note the crackdown devs just released an immense amount of DLC for it and the majority is free.
Ya I wanna be a "Bad Person" and kill me some old ladys and listen to rap music and drive all crazy and run everyone over!!

Hope is not all lost for PS3 owners. Rather than split developers (1 crew porting SR1 and the other doing SR2), they've moved everyone on SR2 which WILL be on both platforms.
just add co-op and clean up online. of course the graphics need an update as well.

guess your gonna be another undercover cop or a member trying to get out or to the top.
It's a bargin bin game on the 360, the only reason anyone bought it when it came out is because there were no games to play. I played the demo and never had the guts to buy it even at $20, so don't be sad guys. It's just yet another bad GTA wannabe.

A "bad GTA wannabe"?

It was superior to GTA in just about every possible category, really.
Why is this a bad thing? They simply found that doing a port is not cost effective, as actually releasing a sequel simetaniously on PS3 and X360 in 2008.

IMO this is smart! SR1

I disagree. I enjoyed SR but it just didn't seem to have the same fun factor as GTA. I'm not sure why. The graphics are great and obviously better than the GTA series so far. But the humor isn't there like in GTA. They tried but sometimes it feels like they are trying too hard (ok, the people in the hotdog/soda costumes are funny!). The control scheme is good if you want a GTA style shooter, otherwise you probably won't like it. I don't mind the controls but personally felt the story missions focused too much on shooting everything. The jumps sucked, so if you enjoy finding the jumps in GTA then forget it. The cars feel slower in SR even though they may not actually be, but it feels that way. No motorcycles in SR. Didn't care for the radio stations. I do like the weapon switching they use rather than cycling through the weapons, and the ability to carry around food to restore your health. SR has much better physics. The GPS style radar is handy too. There is some good stuff in SR but for me it just didn't seem to jell as well as GTA. I would generally recommend it if you want that style of game but I wouldn't say it is better than GTA. I do think it is great that Rockstar has some competition here so the teams can push each other though.

I had no desire to pick it up.

I did enjoy GTA and GTA:VC (anyone remember the top down gta?)

After the experience with the ports that were available at launch I will really need to see glowing reviews before I try another one. Glad I get a free monthly game rental.
I played the demo for my 360 and I was bored to tears. No big loss if you ask me. I just didn't understand what the appeal was. I could feel the seconds ticking off of my life as I played it. I really tried to give it a chance so I could see what the whole GTA thing was about. If GTA4 is anything like SR then I am not interested in that either. The graphics were pretty bad too. Just not my type of game I guess.

Then you wonder how Virginia Tech-style massacres happen. By the look of it, without the fear of jail time, the US would be living from blood bath to blood bath.

duuuuuuuuuuuuuude! its frickin AVS forum! the kid at virginia tech NEVER played video games! He had a video rant criticizing America and their materialism! The WHOLE basis of this forum is materialism!

If I see 32 dead from a kid that got up from his 56" l.e.d based DLP with 7.1 THX SELECT 2 processing and dynamic bass enhancement to kill people in the real world, because he can't tell the difference, then I believe you have a point. It seems most of these kids dress in full length leather coats, and have imaginary girlfriends. Not really the type of people that spend $60 a pop on gamesor $5000+ for a nice home theater. I am not saying not to have your opinion, I just think it should not be up for debate on here.

... on another note, I love to go into really nice clothing stores, rob them, then shoot the clerk! Then I go in the next day, and legitimately buy clothing! I wish I could do that in real life! Saints ROW!!!!

just busting balls! I think Dralt was just trying to bring it back to reality for a sec...

I respect your opinion, but it is not supported by evidence. There is absolutely no evidence to connect violent games with real world criminal violence. Violent games can be associated with some temporary changes in aggression, but these changes, overall, are weak and have small effect sizes.

I can understand that you may personally be offended by a game that glamorizes the "gang" life, but there is no evidence to connect these games to real violence. Glamorizing criminal activity is by no means new. In the last few decades mod life has been glamorized. For the 100 years before that the "wild west" was glamorized. Before that, the "pirate life" was glamorized.

Criminal activity has always been and will always be glamorized by entertainment, but there is no evidence that this entertainment causes subsequent crminal activity.
