For what it is worth (not much), here are some sales statistics I have recently come across. If anyone has any good figures for the number of homes capable of receiving OTA digital, I'd like to see them. I have heard numbers around 60,000 but don't have references.

Sources: www.ce.org The newsroom archives contain most but not all data released by the CEA. www.digitaltelevision.com/mondaymemo/mlist/ The CEA has released to Mark Schubin some sales data not reported in their own press releases. www.twice.com also has published some data which is not shown on the CEA site.

Notes:

Note 2. Mark Schubin's Monday Memo of 1/15/2001 reported thru 11/30/2000 54,690 STBs had been sold and 11,579 integrated receiver/displays had been sold.

Note 3. Mark Schubin Monday Memo of 4/10/01 reported 95,267 integrated receivers and STBs were sold thru 2/28/01 and 66,269 had left factories thru 11/30/00. To obtain Dec-Feb Monthly STB figures it was assumed that 1,000 integrated sets per month were sold during that period. This was based on note 2.

Note 5. March 2001 quarter STB sales are computed using "approximately 15 DTV set-top decoders are now sold for every 100 DTV sets or monitors" in twice.com on CEA figures on 5/7/2001. See note 2 also.

Note 6. The total DTV products reported by Jenny Miller of CEA did not agree with the sum of the previously reported CEA figures. The CEA never reports revised figures.

Above are updated CEA sales figures I keep.

Second quarter display figures might be expected from the CEA about July 15 - Aug 5.

STB sales figures for the first quarter were never released. They had been released for the prior four quarters. Even the 15 for every 100 figure which seems to have come from the CEA did not appear in their own press release. Since the CEA did release Nov and Feb STB figures to Mark Schubin maybe they will give them to him sometime in June after he gets back.
